The International Experience Young Diplomat program is a global legacy project promoting world peace and cross-cultural understanding through international exchange student service and leadership programming.
The iE Young Diplomat Program is led by iE Local Coordinators under guidance from Regional Directors and the international office and is designed to equip, empower and engage students in building their exchange community through service, leadership, and placement activities. Students will, in turn, become leaders in the movement to create peace and understanding across the globe as they communicate through these activities which promote diplomacy.
All students ages 13-23 in middle, high school or college; both American students and exchange students
Student exchange has been an active part of our global society since the early part of the twentieth century and is implemented in large part to create cross-cultural understanding world-wide that promotes peaceful relations and a greater opportunity for people to lead richer lives and dwell in harmony with one another. Exchange students impact their host communities in many ways; creating a program that promotes diplomacy benefits all parties: the exchange student and organization, the community-at-large and each country involved in the exchange. iE-Young Diplomats can help create a stronger network of global understanding across cultures.
Benefits of participating in this program are felt by each person, organization, school and community involved in the exchange experience. As service and leadership are key components, the students can use their participation and certification to aid them in finding employment, scholarships, and grants in the future.
ALL iE exchange students are expected to participate at the Good Citizen level; higher levels of participation are optional. Certificates will be awarded by iE at the end of the program year.
American students are welcome to participate at every level. Award hours may also count toward other volunteer requirements for organizations such as National Honor Society, to meet graduation requirements, and for earning the Congressional Award for Youth.
